A new variety of butterfly joined my photograph collection at the weekend. Despite my lack of previous acquaintance with it, the Orange-tip (Anthocharis cardamines) is now fairly common in Scotland, having spread considerably over the last 30 years. This one was spotted in a clearing in a wood (Shell Bay) which is one of its favourite damp habitats, along with meadows and riverbanks.

And hopefully my photographic intervention prevented rather than caused a tornado.
